Regional Climate

The climate of "Kentuckiana" and Central Kentucky is characterized by warm or hot summers and cool winters. Throughout the year, temperatures do not vary greatly from place to place, although they are generally slightly lower in the Appalachian Plateaus region. Temperatures below freezing are common throughout the state during winter, although extended periods of very cold weather do not occur every year. For the most part, precipitation is dependable and evenly distributed throughout the year. The Bluegrass Region of Kentucky averages 42 inches of annual precipitation, while the extreme south may receive as much as 50 inches of rain/snow each year.
